I began thinking about this when viewing non FIFA national teams ( such as the Basque Country or Catalonia ). The Italian national team currently has no players born in Sicily, meaning that ( as far as I know ) there are no Sicilians in international football.

Has there been any attempts at forming a National team for Sicily? Would you support it? Even if it is not a member of FIFA?

I would not support that, we are italians, there are a few sicilians who fight for independance but it's out of discussion (unless something shocking happens). Sicily is just one of the 20 regions of Italy, we are not 20 little states but just one country. I don't think that will ever happen



As concerning sicilian players, there have been quite a few in the national team but we are a "poor" region, we barely have playing fields and sport centres, it's not easy to reach the top in sports without the proper support. Think about this: we only have 2 football (soccer) fields with grass in Palermo, one being the official Palermo stadium (and you cannot play there), the other one is the Velodromo (cycle track) and guess what.. you can't either go there, all the others are in asphalt, concrete, earth...
